ok so i bought a 90 camry for a pretty good price. it ahd the factory tape deck in it and im a stereo type of guy so the first thing i did was hook up my deck into it. everythig worked fine in the car before, but after the install. the head light switch wont work. marker lights and the headlights wont turn on. the daylight running lights turn on. and everything in the car works other than that. checked the fuses and the tail light fuse was blown i replaced it and the head llights still wont turn on. i hooked the switched power wire and my amp control wire up worng during the install. but that should have affected anything. the deck works fine but i can drive at night. help me please!!!
also why are the rear speakers in these cars not 5 1/4 speakers, anyone know the measurments?
also i notice when i took the factroy deck out it had two plugs on it one was color like power and such but wasent, the other had all the speakers and such and the power ground and switched power. whats the first one do?
also why are the rear speakers in these cars not 5 1/4 speakers, anyone know the measurments?
not sure about the exact measurements, but 5.25" speakers will fit w/ an adapter from crutchfield. I believe mine came w/ 6.5" speakers though. I may have to retro-fit 6.5" speakers into the stock bracket, or just settle with the 5.25's as i already have the brackets from crutchfield.
as far as your lighting problem? i'm not sure. are the dash lights working? do your L/R turn blinkers work? If they do, then you may just have burned bulbs.
Edit: ok, just re-read your post... I didn't know that the 2nd Gen came with DRL's. o.O Either you have a short in the system, or the bulbs really did just burn out...
I'd rule out the bulbs first. go out and buy a cheap pair of headlight bulbs, replace 1 and see if it works. Hopefully, your problem is as simple as that and not as bad as Eye says.
the only wires that were cut were the speaker wires and power, ground and constant supply 12+. these wires were found using a ohms meter, on the larger of the two brackets that plugged into the stock radio. the other bracket of wires, i believe there was five, were orginally cut first because of the color of wires. now in a perfect world all solid red wires would be supply power, yellow would be supply 12+, and black would be ground. im pretty experianced when it comes to electrical in vehicles, and using that i assumed that they would match. i cut them first instead of testing, when tested after cutting revealed them not being the wires i needed, i taped them off. after replacing the stock radio with aftermarket these wires would NOT be plugged in anyway. no other wires were cut or unplugged. i did not change the ground. i used the stock wiring. only mistake i made was hooking the switched 12+ wire to the P Cont. wire on my aftermarket radio's bracket. i doubt that could cause anything.
the car : all lights in the interior work. including the power door locks, sunroof, a/c, windows, side mirrors, blinkers, daytime running lights, dome light. everything pretty much ive tried has worked except the dash lights and headlights/markerlights. anything attached to the knob used to turn on the headlights. i hope i explained this a little better for u guys. thank you for you responses
Monito - what is a drl? i may try the retro fit. problem is im installing some serious stereo equipment and need them mounted very securely.
eye8pussies - im going to take her apart again today and see exactly whats going on under the dash i will use my digi and take sum pics and ill post up my findings later.
so the black one on the other bracket is the ground for the tail lights? why would they do that exactly? that is pretty god dam dum, but cool man thanx alot for that. ill ground out that black wire as soon as i wake up in the mourning and see what happens. thanx again
well about to go try out this advice, i went to the junk yard today and there is lots of camry in there. pretty common car to find in there. how come there arnt any 5 speeds though? all autos. boooo. mines a 5 speed. anyways one last question, where is the best spot to ground in the rear of the car?
RE: lighting: you're going to have to pull the dash panel apart. not difficult, just annoying. Especially @ the cluster guage.
1 - first thing to look at is the gear locator [btw, i'm assuming you have an AT]
ALL the bulbs have to be installed for the circuit to be continuous. If a bulb is loose or missing, the headlights, parking lights, blinkers, and dash lights won't work. [There's a break in the circuit] <*I had this problem*^
2 - pull the cluster guage. Be careful w/ the wires. check that everything is fine and dandy back there.
3 - the switch on the steering column may actually be worn, or the wires may have been pulled
*edit* i just read you have a 5-speed MT; but, you still may have a problem with circuit continuity across the dash/steering column.
ok so i tried this whole black wire thing, now one of the black wires is a rear speaker wire. the other one is black primary red secondary and it make the tail light fuse not blow but it doesnt make it work either. the brown wire does nothing so far it is not a ground as far as i can tell. i tried grounding it all out and nothing helped when i hit the lights the fuse for the taillights blows every time. unless the black and red wire is on.
the one on the left is the black red one. the brown does nothing, same with the other one.
this is the green wire that i am using for a ground. no problems there.
if noone on this site knows the answer. then the knowledge and point of this site is meager at best. this is a simply electrical issue. some one here knows of or has had this problem before. i have looked at the wiring schematics and the black wire buddy above is talking about is something to do with the power attena. i really need some answers or some direction. if one light burns out does it take out the whole circuit? cant be. i dont mean to come off as being rude. this problem is REALLY getting to me. lol
that green wire ISN"T ground it's either your illumination ciruit which would figures why your lights won't turn on. or it's for your front right speaker... but i bet you got that... and that brown doesn't do anything because it's your GROUND !... whenever you install an aftermarket HU you will usually have 2 wires left that's not used.. that's illumination (even though some new HU uses it now) and your dimmer circuit wire. u know that one that controls the brightness of everything... here's the run down of the wires
igition/acc - grey
battery(always on) - blue/yellow
ground - brown
illumination - green
the rest is for the speakers. and that one mystery dimmer wire. which is right under or above illumination wire in the harness. i'd know cause there'r still on the harness on the car.
front right + light green
FR - blue
FL+ pink
FL- purple
RR+ red
RR- white
RL+ black
RL- yellow
have fun back tracking your crazy wiring skills
