Ignition switch replacement/starting problems

Hey and good day. Am I daft or does the Toyota Camry manual that is availble for download here at this excellent site not have any instructions on R+R of the ignition switch? I know this has probably been discussed a million times on the board. But when I do a search for ignition switch, or ignition switch replacement or etc. etc. I have found nothing about the actual instructions. In fact I find just a bare mention of maybe the problem is the ignition switch or this or that. So please forgive me if I have just wasted space and did not find what should have easily been found.. I know I could probably wing it. But I have never been in to the column of a toyota camry 1990 LE. I have found through many years that reading a repair manual can save time, money, and accidental breakages of things, so that is why I would really love to have it if available. The manual seems to talk about replacing the other switches in the column but nada for the ignition switch..

My daughters car will not start. I have bench tested the starter. Works perfect. I have checked the Neutral safety switch for continuity as called out for in the manual. It passes. When I turn the key to start I am not getting any voltage to the small lead wire that goes to (st50) on the starter just above the Battery cable connection. I can hear the relays klicking in the fuse box next to the battery. But no juice to the starter..

I notice there is a ignition or a starter relay on the left hand kick panel on drivers side. But the manual as far as I can tell says nothing about what it does. It does not include it in any of the trouble shooting suggestions for Non-start trouble shooting. I know that on the autos apparently the Main engine relay does not affect juice to the starting system on Auto's because the car will start (previously before this problem) without the relay plugged in.

Any help, and advice is very much appreciated. I don't mind replacing the switch if that is what it is. But these other things that seem to be non-discussed in the manual have me scratching my head.
thankyou very much for your time and trouble..

The circuit for starter solenoid terminal branches out after the neutral safety switc to ECU, cold start injector, circuit opening (fuel pump ) relay. Check if you have 12V at cold start injector terminal black wire with key on start.

Ignition switch instructions in manual?? bump

Hey there thanks for the info.. I attempted your test but have also found the ignition switch failed a continuity test as per the manual.. So thank you for your time and response. I appreciate it a lot..

I sure wish someone could show me where I have missed R & R instructions in the Gen 1&2 manual for the ignition switch and the key tumbler.. Is it possible they did not include it?

thanks again

Check out the "steering" section, see if that helps.

Thank you Kep,, I am still at a loss as to why apparently they did not include instructions on how to R&R the cylnder lock and/or key tumbler.. Fortunately,, I found the problem to be the ignition switch per continuity check one prong was dead in the start position. Apparently that was it because with a new switch it starts like a champ.. I hope I never have to replace the cylinder lock or I will be pulling my hair out over that issue again.,..

thanks again all for your input..

toyota manual blew this one for sure unless someone can prove me wrong.. I wouldnt' be bothered if someone did.. lol..
