Canada 89 camry le v6 tach and tranny problems

I have a new to me 89 camry le v6 with two different issues.
The car has 185,000 Km around 120,000 miles.
I noticed the first problem when I tried accelerating. The tach pinned past 8000 RPM. The engine did not sound like it was running this fast.
On warm idle is about 1000 RPM.
80KMH/50MPH shows about 3000RPM.
110KMH/65MPH shows about 4000RPM.
Any thoughts. Are the readings OK?
The second issue occured on the way home from work, the first real trip, on a very wet evening. I noticed the O/D light flashing.
There doesn't seem to be any shift or power problem. Overdrive is working. Fluid level is ok though it could use a clean. Shifts seem solid.
I will try to read the codes.

Any help greatfully appreciated.

Sincerely,
Jim Brooks

2nd Generation

welcome to TN

i dnt know if it the same in the v6, but in my I4 110km/h reads 3200 rpm, 100km/h reads 3k rpm and 80km/h reads about 2750 rpm.

my idle is 800 - 900 rpm which i think is the norm for gen 2 camrys.

sum1 likes to confirm idle speed?

Thanks Carlman.

The RPM still seem high for a V6. Especially pinning the tach when accelerating.
I checked for the error code (61/failed no.2 speed sensor). It's interesting as I've driven the car around all weekend without problems. Today it started raining and did so all the way home. One of the things I've found fixing the car is lots of electrical terminals are corroded. I'm still trying to get the high brake light to work.
At least it sounds like something cheap and simple to fix although I sure wish the manual guys would work on the pictures. Sometimes it's like an eye chart trying to figure out what and where they are looking.
I guess I shouldn't complain though as it seems better than the one I paid money for.

Thanks for your help,
Jim

O/D flashing is the tranny's CEL light. when the O/D flashes, it the tranny's computer letting you know that there is a problem.

and your tach is reading high. for my 2vz-fe AT, 3000 RPMs is around 75 MPH [~120 kph]

My former 89 I4 would read 2200 at 60 mph with OD and 3000 rpm with OD off. Doesn't look like OD is working on yours, especially with light flashing.
