2nd Generation "NORM" light

Ok, this is weird, you know the little "NORM" light under the gear selection on the dash that lights up in green (next to the PWR light), mine periodically goes on and off. I was wondering if it does this for a reason. When I start the car in the morning when its cold the light is on but then as the car warms up it shuts off and blinks back on from time to time. I didnt think very much off it for a while, and thought it was caused by the EGR or a misfire or something.

Anyways now after cleaning the EGR, changing the spark plugs, wires , cap and rotor, timing the car, seafoaming the car, cleaning the throttle body and running many bottles of injector cleaner the light still goes off. So I'm under the impression that the car is being gay, and there is nothing happening. BTW the car runs fine when it goes off, idles properly, takes off properly. So any ideas?

If the car is running fine when the light goes off, then it's probably a problem with the bulb or the socket it goes in to. These lights tell you that the tansmission is in either in the "normal" or "power" mode, as controled by a button on the center consul by the shifter. It has nothing to do with an engine missfire. These bulbs can be a pain to get to, so I would just leave it alone if it appears that it is not affecting anything.

So its nothing, I couldnt understand why it kept going on and off. I have more bulbs lying around so I'll try to change it, (I know its a pain to get too )

BUT I do have one reoccuring problem that I cant fix and another question. First, the problem...

Since I bought the car (a year and half ago) it has been doing this. If you drive at 70 km/h 45 MPH at 1500 RPM steadily the engine bucks a tiny bit, you can feel it. I think its a misfire but that makes no sense, the car runs fine, everything has been checked / cleaned.

Secondly, the question. Let me explain first. When when I step on the gas the engine revs up to accelerate, it does this steadily up to 3000 RPM then plateaus at 3000 RPM for 1 second and then continues climbing. The needle goes up, up then stops at 3000 RPM for a second then climbs again. What could cause this? As I mentioned, everything has been cleaned / changed

That sounds like the torque converter b/c its not locking up until you reach cruising speed. Mine does this too.

Since the Norm light is just an indicator light, the flashing inconsistently is not something to worry about. Mine works intermittently. I believe its a common problem with the gear indicator displays flashing randomly on all gen2 camrys.

When I put my ECT in "power" mode, the PWR light stays on. I wouldnt worry about it, but if you want you can try cleaning the contacts on the harness to the indicator.

The only light to worry about is it your O/D off light is flashing in a consistent pattern.

what do you mean by not locking up? Why would the torque cause the revs to plateau? I forgot to mention this happens when I'm accelerating WOT from about 20 MPH and making the transmission kick down. Its when the motor is under load passing 3000 rpm, in second gear (auto transmission of course)

And I figuerd out what was wrong with the NORM light, Mike pointed it out first, check the contact on the bulb or the socket, sure enough that was the problem. I touched the bulb in the back while I had the guage bezel off and it tuned back on, so I cleaned the contact now its working fine.

Any ideas about the 35 MPH bucking? it only happens at that speed at 1500 RPM, and if you give it gas it goes away. I thought EGR but I cleaned it and checked it and everything is cool.

I've heard of the TPS (throttle position sensor) also causing bucking symptoms like you described earlier.
