2nd Generation Crank Bolts Tsb

Engine - Cylinder Block and Crankshaft Modified
Notes

90toyota02

REFERENCE ENGINE
NUMBER 018
DATE 02-09-90
MODEL ST, SV

TITLE 3S-FE CYLINDER BLOCK AND CRANKSHAFT CHANGE

The cylinder block and crankshaft for 3S-FE engines have been modified.

1. CYLINDER BLOCK.

The cylinder block has new ribs for greater stiffness, and the plugs for the oil cooler (not used in U.S. market) have been eliminated, as shown below.

IMPORTANT SERVICE NOTES ON CHANGES:1) The new design oil filter (smaller), P/N 90915-03001 MUST be used with this new block. If the previous design oil filter (larger), P/N 15601-13011 is used, the added rib near the oil filter can interfere with the larger housing and cause a poor seal to the block, resulting in an oil leak.
Both oil filters can be used on previous cylinder blocks. Refer to TSB Vol. 9, Engine # 013 for details of oil filter change.2) If a previous cylinder block is used for replacement, the two oil cooler line plugs (P/N 90345-51006) must be installed.

2. CRANKSHAFT:

The number of bolts holding the flywheel or flex plate has increased from 6 (six) to 8 (eight).
PRODUCTION EFFECTIVE:

DATE ENGINE No.
Block Change: February 1989 3S-6175000 3S-0981000

Crankshaft Change: May 1989 3S-6191706 3S-1039856

PART NUMBER INFORMATION:
New or previous style crankshafts can be installed in either cylinder block with the applicable drive plate changes
