1st & 2nd Generation (1983–1986 & 1987-1991)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1983-1986 & 1987-1991.
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
So I have been searching for a company that is stocking B+G springs for a 2g camry and I can't find one anywhere. I finally called SFX Performance and they said that B+G makes a great spring and they ship like crap. Aparently they are very hard to find. My first question is, has anyone put them on their car and where did you get them? Secondly, if I can't find them, the only other lowering springs I found were Intrax and I am less than thrilled about putting those on my car. Are there any other options out there that I don't know about? Please let me know. I really want to get this done before winter really hits. Any advice at all would be great. Thanks.
Jay
I have intrax springs on my camry, and they're great. I don't see why you wouldn't be thrilled about them. Intrax makes good stuff. I autocross my camry, so obviously I know how great they work on the track.
I remember a few years ago, the guy who won STS at nationals was setup with Intrax springs... and really big anti-roll bars.
See I have heard things both ways. Some people say Intrax is great and then I hear some people who don't like them at all. I already have KYB GR2 struts so I want something that will work well with those. Anyone who has Intrax springs, what struts are you using and what kind of ride stiffness are you getting?
Jay
P.S. I wasn't trying to step on anyone's toes. I just have heard mixed reviews about Intrax and not about B&G. That is all I was getting at.

Put me in the camp of people who don't really like the Intrax springs. My situation is a bit different as I have extra weight in the front that the springs were designed for now (more than a V6 auto, probably). I didn't think they were all that great in my old Camry either though... I've only used the Tockico blue inserts (on both setups).
My WRX on stock struts and Tein S-tech springs (commonly known to be bad in the Subaru community) rides better and handles better. I'm sure the chassis has something to do with it, but the suspension design is almost the same between the two cars.

hey guys...question, you guys have the spring rates on stock springs, intrax, and b+g?
also to add to your comment Charlie...tell those naisoic (sp?) fools to shut up, aint nothign wrong with tein s-techs...i run them on my 02 si with koni adjustables...yes i know htey arent the same, but come on...i think they are great HAHA...
now what you guys need to do is get tein out in socal to do a spring for the camry...they are developing a midevil coilover setup for my 84-87 civic/crx crew right now...im sure springs would be easy for htem, and it couldnt be that hard to convince htem to make a spring for such a common car...

The real problem with achieving something with Tein is the fact that too many of the Gen2 Camry owners are just too cheap when it comes to doing something for the Gen2.
This has been the constant problem with ventures attempted in the past such as carbon fiber products, suspension (over and over and over again), exhausts, and the like.
They love the ideas to death, but don't consider the costs involved on a new product. And even when the costs are explained in detail beyond the point of justification, all you will see on the thread is lowballing and negativity until the idea is scrapped for good.
At this point, the only way I ever see a suggestion like yours taking shape is when there's a consistent number of Gen2 Camry owners rising above the naysayers willing to take a suggestion like yours and totally see it through....
....until then, all you're going to hear is a lot of noise....
...in the meantime, I'll just continue to follow Charlie's progress because it's pretty much a given that he's going to hit the 300HP mark very soon, and of course Matt's Gen2 which continues to evolve before our eyes...
yah i understand how the whole convincing a forum to do that kinda stuff is...tein is pretty good at hitting a price point, i could see them coming close to b&gs prices...but not as low...i mean for my 02si the tein springs are about 230, which isnt bad...its nothing compared to the high end tein coilovers for my racecar...those pups cost around 2200 before revalving and custom spring rates...i think we have 600lb springs with it valved up to 800...so if i want to go stiffer i can......and thats the crazy thing...that suspension was a group buy on my 84-87 civic crx forum, and nothing is made for that car (first FI civic), those are the only REAL coilovers for hte car made and somehow enough people got onboard to get that done...but hte crazy thing is, when they tried to do carbon fiber hoods for the 84-87 civic hatch the group buy never got enough people...so its always worth trying, but obviously i understand...
as for the amazon stuff kuler2.0 said he did contact them...when he wakes up im sure hell pop his head in here and look around and comment on this...

Yeah I checked with all of the parent distributers and they all said that B&G isn't shipping those. Apparently it is not just with this car. It is with B&G as a whole so I think I am going to have to go with Intrax. I tried one more company and if they don't come through (which I don't think they will) then I am going to just get the Intrax to get something on but thanks for the suggestions. If anyone knows of anywhere else (or sees them on Ebay or something), please let me know.
Thanks,
Jay
