How do I remove the heater controls?

I have the manual, not the electronic one, so there's wires and hooks behind the controls that I don't know how to remove. I'm having trouble with the middle part in general as I am trying to remove my dash pad. Thanks!

Ok I need some extra help here, been at it for two hours now trying to remove it. It's a sunday so the yards are closed and I seriously need to wrap this up on my free day. fredk, what do you mean by unhook the cables from the other end? On the blower itself? It looks hard. When I try to pull the center piece towards the front, there's only so much slack that the cables give me so I end up having like an inch of room to look at the cables and do all the work, which doesn't work at all. Please help!

Wow I din't think it was going to be easy like that haha, oh how the simplest things escape us. So I finally got this thing out, after much frustration.

I had lots of trouble with this one. Is there a tool with a 90-degree bend to access this?

Alright I'll clean it with compressed air the next day I'm free. I wonder if creating a tighter seal with the vents will make my windshield defog faster...

atobe, I'm trying to replace the dash pad because the two outermost vents are cracked and broken, the middle ones do not alternate between the types of venting, mainly the three unsightly cracks you see on the right.

Alright I have the new dash pad installed. Ran into some little things like the cables affecting the slider on the heater control from moving fully and heat not working. The cables have little color markings at the ends and the section with the paint should match with the clip when you clip it in. If you have the old style cluster cover (with the hazard and defog buttons on it) they'll fit on the newer dashes but the newer cluster cover won't work with the older connectors as they are different.

One thing though: the On option that the domelight has (on, off, door) won't work anymore for me for some reason after the swap. I have two units and they're both the same.
