Im now an offical Gen 3.5 guy, but I miss my 88 Cam for sure!!

Im now with a 1996 5SFE 5 speed, but I miss my Japan built Gen 2!

It's funny how the car is 8 years newer yet not all that much faster...WTF!
Good, reliable, solid, and more refined then a Gen2 Camry, but jsut not the same.......If it wasnt for the fact that my 88' was rusting to SHIT, I would still have it for sure!!
Im gonna sell my gen 3.5 in about 2 months or so and try to pick up a late model Celica or Corolla (or perhaps a Civic...please forgive me)....my problem is I refuse to drive an automatic and finding an unmolested manual transmission car is not so easy.
My Gen2 had nice options(Moonroof, cruise control)......ohhhh how I miss it so.....

I had an 88LE. My dad bought a 96 DX 5-speed like what you have now. I drove both and the reason why the 96 feels slow is that it only had 10 more HP (125 HP) than the 88 (115 HP), but weighed a lot more.

Yeah, that rust thing really drives me crazy too...I'm going down to Virginia or Florida next year to find a nice clean replacement Gen2. All this body work is driving me insane and the high Canadian dollar makes it worthwhile to import.

EXACTLY!!!!!!

....my question to Toyota is......why only 10 more HP on a car that's 8 years newer?????
dont get me wrong, the car is more civilized then a Gen2, but still!!

A paint job is not gonna make the the rust go away.......
The one thing that my 1996 has going for it is that I think it's by far the nicest body style of all the generations(IMO), and the body is clean....with the exception of the hood paint chipping
Im frustrated with the lack of power!......Im pondering the idea of an Acura Integra 5 speed.....all stock, not modded in any way.
....but for now, the Cam will have to do.

I agree the gen 3's have nice body styling.... But I like '80's styling much better than the 90's. gen3 is when the camry grew up from a compact to midsized car. The V6 gen 3's are rather nice though.

To the person looking to find a camry with good body, no rust. Virginia and Florida both get plenty of rain... you'll find a whole lot of rusty gen2s in those areas. Go to Arizona, or New Mexico... Not much rain, nice rust free cars
