1st & 2nd Generation (1983–1986 & 1987-1991)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1983-1986 & 1987-1991.
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I have an '88 camry wagon. The seats are shot, the driver side really. I usually just drive the car myself, don't usually have passengers. I would like to get a little lower sitting seat, and maybe something after market that is really comfortable and supportive. I spent a lot of time in the drivers seat. What do you guys suggest? Repair the stock somehow, swap from a different car, or after market?
i was in your position about a year ago, i replaced my shot seats with aftermarket ones, it was the best thing i did to the car! it is so damn comfortable and they look good too. Easy installation, all i used was an arc welder and black paint lol
below is a picture:
ill be glad to help you out on here if you need it
Lucky for me I have a nice miller MIG welder and have enough skill to produce an amateur weld. So that won't be a problem. It looks like the seats are made by MONZA? So where did you get them and what model etc. are they? How much did you pay for them? What do they have for adjustments, lumbar, bolster, etc.? How do they work with your seat belts? I know some of the race seats are higher on the sides on the seat bottom and the stock belts are held high. Also I have to look how mine are set up, but I have the automatic belts, I see you don't. That is good for you, I'm sure it make it easier to install. I had my seats out once and I think the belt latch by the center console is attached to the seat and is on a "rail" system to slide with the seat. So that will be a problem. Were yours that way with the non-auto belts?
they are actually made by Autotechnica (italian), the model is Monza. They are fully reclining and sliding. I paid 450$ australian for them, but you can get cheaper ones or even go used. I think they sit a little lower which is noice anyway lol. if you are talking about where the belt clips into, then it is joined to the bolt that the seat reclines on. They work perfectly fine with the stock belts although i have never tried or seen auto belts. Very very comfy, u shud go 4 it!!
Lol... you aren't the only one. I've had mine for years.
For my new Alltrac, I think I'll go with newer stock Toyota seats (Celica GTS or similar) and modify them to bolt in. (though I have access to a few older WRX seats from a buddy - I might try those...)

That's what I really wanted are some nice stock Celica GT-S or Supra seats. I had a set once, never put them into any thing. But just sitting in them was great. They were totally adjustable.

Why do you want newer stock Toyota seats instead of after market seats? How will you handle the automatic seat belt situation?
There's nothing to handle with the auto seatbelts. The don't attach to the seat at all. All you need is the lap belt buckle to bolt on (which will already be there with newer seats...).
Well designed stock seats will look better, fit better and last longer compared to all but the most expensive aftermarket seats. I haven't made the final decision though.

hey white90dx neva knew u had racing seats in ur ride, give us a pic aye
nd to think i was special lol
They aren't anything special. Just a Momo T-frame seat from a few years back. Fixed back tubular frame with black cloth. The passenger seat is stock with a seat cover.
There are planty of other gen2 guys with aftermarket seats too... sorry to break it to you.
