High Idle

I just changed the head gasket on my 86 2s-e and before putting the intake back on I removed all vacume lines except fuel pressure regulator, PCV, brake booster and that other line on the valve cover. I took all the other ones off to save future problems with the old lines and to cut down on engine compartment clutter. I used a digital timing light to set my timing and according to the timing gun my engine is idling at 1,000 rpm. The set screw for the idle adjustment is backed all the way out and it is still 1,000 rpm. All vacume ports on intake are plugged and as far as I know there are no vacume leaks. It runs perfectly with no problems it just idles high and I was wondering what it might be.

did it idle right before you did all the work? If so i think i'd put the vacuum hoses back the same way they were when the factory put them on when they made the car...maybe just plugging the vacuum ports on the intake is not the way to go if you want the car to idle right
