1991 Camry Door Interior Handle repair

I have a 1991 Toyota Camry DX (170k miles, 2.0L engine) that has broken door handles on both inside front doors. Got the replacement parts. How do I replace the handles? Does the door panel need to come off? Any assistance would be appreciated! Thanks

yeah that's your best bet is taking off the door panel. it's only held on by 4-6 screws i can't remember..the hardness part is getting the rod onto the handle while holding the door panel in between.

Ok, there is no rod, instead a metal cable is attached to the plastic door handle. How do I disconnet the cable from the door handle?
The cable doesn't seem to seperate from the plastic door handle.

You can replace the handles without removing the doors. Pop the handle out (one screw, then slide and pull). The rod is held down to the handle with a small plastic clip. Pop the clip off by rotating it off the rod. Replace the opposite way.
