Smile 1990 AllTrac Camry DriveTrain

I've heard a few people mention that the drivetrain on the 1990 camry is too weak to handle 200+hp. Is this true and is there any way to strengthen it or change it out? I'm very interested in purchasing a 1990 All-Trac camry and swapping a V6 solara engine in it. I was considering the All-trac (90-93) Celica's, but they are priced considerably higher...plus an all-trac camry sleeper is more appealing! Thanks in advance

A celica alltrac can handle 600hp with alot of mods so why change the engine for a v6 when you got a 3sgte in there. If you plop a 3sgte into your camry with a solara or camry v6 5spd trans it will hold the power but with the stock 3s trans forget over 200hp it will break down after a couple months.

Thanks Jzs147-RR,
It sounds like you were referring to the Celica alltrac. But, can the Drivetrain of a 1990 camry all-trac handle 200+hp of a newer V6 solara engine and v6 manual transmission? I was planning to add the supercharger for a total of about 250-290 horsepower at the wheels. Also how much does the 1990 camry alltrac weigh? i'm hoping not more than 3000lbs?

Car is 3000lbs easy and the stock trans and diff will never hold the power you need to replace all that with alltrack celica parts.

Okay thanks again. I guess I'll be saving some more money for a good condition 90-93 Toyota Celica AllTrac.

actually swap with the All TRac and keep it 4wd .... So you have a 3S-GTE and a All trac drivetrain. That would be hella sick if you see a 2nd Gen Camry in a full boar 4wd Power Slid...

Where can I get a celica ST185 All-Trac drivetrain? And does the drivetrain that replaces the All-Trac camry drivetrain have to be from a st185 All-trac celica or would it also fit with the st165 all trac celica?

Should fit with the ST165, ST185, and the ST205. Just look for deals where you'll being buying both in a package. Better yet, look for a front clip.

Why is the ST185 and 205 drivetrain better? I don't plan on more than 300hp, so even if the drivetrain could only handle 400hp, this would be fine. Can the st165 drivetrain handle this?

because the most I've seen the ST165 handle is 300whp... Anything above that they upgrade to the newer models...

Yeah you could buy an old Camry All-Trac 5 speed and a JDM clip from an ST185 and it would cost less than buying a ST185 itself. Those cars are kinda expensive. Plus the Camry would be faster(because of the JDM engine) and extremely unique.
