3SFE Cam bearing torque

I'm replacing the head on a 3sfe 4 cylinder. The repair manual calls for torqing the camshalf bearing caps to 14 ft pounds. My wrench doesn't go that low. 14 pounds seems awefully low. Can i torque them to 17 to 20 pounds?

You should be able to find a torque wrench that does inch/pounds and convert the measurements. Shouldn't be too expensive and will make sure you're right on the money.

You could possibly torque them to those settings and not hurt anything. But the parts under torque are probably cast aluminum, and so toyota probably set those torque settings so low for a reason.
Generally internal engine part torque settings assume clean bolt holes and lightly oiled bolts (one or two drops engine oil typically the assumed lubricant). I would think if you wanted to use loctite the settings about the same.
Still of course it would probably be better to torque them to toyota settings, harbor freight does have the inch pound torque wrenches that skiermang mentions and they are pretty cheap there. Hows $14.99 sound
