Couple weeks in and everything appears to be fine

It's been two weeks since I picked up the Camry and it's been running well. She doesn't drink as much oil as I expected, but there are still some issues:

* dome light is broken. Fuse and bulb are ok, I guess there's some contacts I need to check.
* transmission fluid needs to be changed
* alignment should be set. Looking at trying this myself.

All in all it's working out very well for my GF. She's enjoying having a vehicle again and the price was certainly right. Many thanks to this forum! It has a ton of great information in it that I would have been lost without.

Do you really have the precision equipment to set the alignment yourself?!

I was going to try the string method to improve things a bit. As far as I can tell, tire wear is not abnormal so it's not too bad, but it pulls a tiny bit to the right. The transmission fluid was pretty bad when I drained the pan:

I drained the pan, refilled, started the car and ran it through the gears, drained, refilled, through gears, etc.. a few times. I believe I put about two gallons through it this way. The last drain looked a little better:

Once spring rolls around I'll order a transmission filter kit and do the drain/refill/run dance again.

when you do the filter thing make ABSOLUTELY sure it goes on correctly. I did it on a V6 auto I had just bought and apparently if the cover does not go on excactly right the tranny will suck in the surrounding gasket. it cost me $900 for a replacement (including labor). The dealer that did it told me a few of their mechanics had to buy a new tranny for the same reason
