2nd Generation Under-steer?!?!?!

So I just finished the suspension on my 87 2G. I put intrax lowering springs on KYB GR2's. I am running on 195/70's as far as tires go. I still have a whole mass load of under-steer. My steering is quite loose so it is harder to control however I still shouldn't be getting this much under-steer. What might be a good fix for this. Wider tires? Sways? What options do I have as far as sways and maybe a strut brace (even though that won't help under-steer that much)? Has anyone else had this problem?

The car is front heavy to begin with. It was designed to understeer because its generally safer than oversteer in most situations.

What tires are you running? The rubber will probably make the biggest difference. 70 series tires (on 14" wheels im guessing) will provide way too much sidewall flex for any "spirited" driving or hard cornering. get larger diameter wheels and decrease the tire height.

As far as stiffening up the front end, that will only cause it to slide more. I've heard that you should get a whiteline rear sway bar to even things out...and the front sway bar upgrade is just overkill for these cars...keep it simple and get an es250 strut tower brace and replace the worn out sway bar bushings on the frame and lower control arms.

On my V6 I found that the stock 185/60/R15 are pretty good. On my I4 it seems like 185/60/R14 are good too...

The best I've tried yet though are the 205/55/R15 Eagles I have from a 93 Celica. The ride quality sucks sucks sucks on bumpy roads but they help corner handling a fair bit.

Hey Kuler2.0: post some pics of your car...I've never seen the Hachi-Roku Panda paint scheme on a Camry--you should deliver tofu with the Camry!

wider tires with lower ratio... with some grippy tires... and an upgraded RSB will definitely help

Why would the front sway be overkill? I mean I understand how it would be on my current tires (195/70/14 Kuhmo KR21's) but if I were to go with a 205/50/16 with an aggressive tread pattern, or something along that size range, I would think that the front sway would help quite a bit. It would help handling more than a strut brace would I think. Let me know your reasoning. Also, keep in mind that down the road I am looking at a 3s-gte swap so I am starting to set the car up for that.

Larger front sway bar = more understeer, and isn't that the problem here?

try urethane bushings

Yeah upgrade the rear sway bar and leave the front in place. The front sway bar is significantly thicker than the rear. By upgrading the rear you balance out the car by making the front and rear sway bars closer to the same thickness (and strength) thereby reducing understeer. Upgrading the bushings and tires will also help, like what's been said above.

Question... where do you get strut tower bars for the es250??? They never have that car at my local wrecking yard, and I cant find them online. I would like one for my camry if you guys know where to get them. Thanks
