They are... And so is the 3sfe... But some references claim the 3sfe to be 'sohc' due to the simple fact that there is only one cam gear that is driven by the timing belt, which I think is a stupid way of classifying sohc vs dohc.

Pick up a shop manual for your car, and read the section on engine overhaul. The diagrams will show you that the engine has two overhead cams (one cam for the intake valves, and one for the exhaust). However, the timing belt only runs one cam sprocket, which then in turn runs a secondary sprocket. Technically, the engine is DOHC but a purist will call it SOHC.

well the cars been off the rd for the past 2 day. on my way out to the movies saturday night i noticed the car was runnin really hot and i thought it might just be low on coolant. after the movies i took it home and filled it up and it just pissed straight back out i thought it was head gasket till i saw it pissing out from on top of the sump.

after lookin at the sight and doing some research i later discovered it is either the waterpump its gasket or the o ring. so i bought a whole new pump. i started pulling it apart to change it until i hit a brick wall that i couldn't overcome so its going into my mechanic 2moro hopefully its something nice and simple like just replacing the pump and the seals. but i know i should replace the belts as well coz the alternator one isnt lookin to flash and the timing belt would be in pretty bad shape to due to the coolant leaking on it. so we shall see 2moro

ill keep you all posted

well got the car back and stuff just kept going wrong. the day i picked it up was 2 corners from home and my power steering went. so i replaced the 2 lower soft lines and fixed that then friday nite i blew my top radiator hose so i had to replace the 2 hoses and then flush it and re fill it.

but i have all the mods i bought recently fitted and all the bugs worked out so im happy
