Intermittent mis, stuttering...

This one has me going. Someone I was talking to suggested monitoring voltage, which I will, but.. See what the group makes of it.

Cold start, runs great. Then when it warms up, there is an intermittent miss at idle.

Later, at highway speed, it'll do the intermittent miss. Taking it out of OD for a time cures it.

Later yet, in city traffic, it stutters on acceleration until 22-2300 RPM, then takes off.

91 Camry LE 3S-FE.

Thoughts?

Possible oxygen sensor failure, although when mine was going the engine missed until almost 4000rpm. Your lower rpm smooth-out may indicate something else. Try to see if you can pull a trouble code from the computer (do a search on the forum for "diagnostic" and you should find the procedure if you don't already know).

Lotsa possibilities

Checked battery voltage before and after starting. Working fine for the charging system.
Easy bit done.

Jumped the two terminals, and got 12 for an error code.

I know I saw the list on here somewhere, but...

Code 12 is the distributor.

Wouldn't the code narrow it down a bit more?

I really miss the big V8s.

'60 Chev Biscayne, 283 CID, later upgrade to a 307.
'69 Ford LTD sedan, 429 CID 2 BBL. Fastest ever owned. Totally owned a cop in that one.
'76 Ford Granada, 302 CID. Lemon, tranny quit in 76,000.
'72 Opel Ralley. Dinky little 1.4L motor, but a blast to drive
'72 Ford LTD wagon, 400 CID 2 BBL
'89 Hyundai Accel 1.4L again, but the engine blew oil out the carb at 94K. Apparently nature of the vehicle; if you drove it, it would blow.
'76 Plymouth Volare 318 CID 2 BBL. $2500 into it, and I gave up when the rear end did. Enough.

Thems the cars I've had and kept alive. The Detroit motors were the easiest, and you can draw a scale from first to last as to easiest to work on..

Update;

I cleared the codes, and drove until the problem resurfaced, then returned.

No trouble code exists. The 12 must have been from the timing belt wiping a couple of weeks back.

Coil is a possibility. I'll check cold/hot resistance next..
