Gen1 dome light

When a door is opened on my car the little light on the dash comes on that a door is open but the dome light won't come on and the switch on light is on door.

Check the bulb.

Obvious, I know, but excepting a fault in the wiring to the fixture, that would be the problem.

The door switch is working..

the bulb is ok. I took the hole assembly out and the plug for it slides on 2 metal pins and those metal pins are riveted to the contacts for the light and the rivets just fell off. I'm fixing that and then it should work.

I had the same problem on my '86. I pulled the whole thing out and made sure all the contact points were clean and, well, making contact. Works fine now.

It's kind of a goofy setup, as you mentioned the 2 pins just kind of slide out, so make sure you get it back in there right.
