2nd Generation o2 sensor

How many o2 sensors are on a 90 v6 Camry and how would you check to see if they are not working?

There's just one, it's on the y-pipe just after the junction. The wire leads down from above the power steering pump. If you remove the left-hand wheel you can reach through the hole in the frame where the steering rack sits, and use an extension to unbolt the two flange nuts on the sensor.

As for diagnosis, check for a trouble code from the ECU. A crapped-out sensor will cause no problems when engine is cold, but on warm-up you'll lose power, and your idle might get rough. The engine will miss until around 4000rpm, above that you'll notice it smooth-out.

I have a california model with a sensor off each bank. Then again I haven't seen my car in year so maybe it only has one???? Get a mulitmeter on it set to VDC. Back probe the sensor to take the reading. While the car is running (and already warmed up), it should actually make a voltage from 0V-1V. Nomial is .5V. It should cycle every couple of seconds at idle, and even faster at higher RPM's. If I remember right,....Rich is 0V and lean is 1V. The material in the O2 sensor creates a voltage when it reacts to extra Oxygen. Oh, you'll probably need to have the car on ramps or jack stands to do this.

Good luck
