Inner Tie Rod

So I need to replace my inner tie rod, I rented the tool to do the job and plan on tackling this myself as it looks pretty straight forward. Is there anything I need to look out for from anyone else's previous experience in changing this part?

Carefully measure the old one before you remove it. Measure the tie rods center-to-center and record this figure.
Loosen the lock nut and CAREFULLY COUNT the number of complete turns it takes to get the old one off. Now compare the old tie rod to the new. they should about exactly the same length.

Now spin the new one on the same exact number of turns it took to get the old one off. Bang the ball and shaft into place in its hole and tighten the nut firmly but not to final yet...first measure your center-to-center again - the measurement ought to exactly match the figure you wrote down. (If all goes well you might be able to avoid paying for a wheel alignment).

If everything looks good, tighten the castle nut and insert a new cotter pin and bend it, and you are done. Keep an eye on your front tire wear for a few weeks. If the tires are wearing irregularly i'd consider changing the rest of the worn out front end parts too before getting a wheel alignment.

What promped you to do this? I have been experiencing a dull thud when i hit a bump noise is coming from right front end. Think it might be a strut but don't know.
Can you advise me on this?

You're going to have to do some specific diagnosis on the front end of your car. There are so many things that can cause front-end noise. Inner tie-rod end, outer tie-rod, balljoint, rotten/worn control arm bushings, pooched struts.
