Lightbulb Intake Silencer Delete

Just wondering if i'm the only one who has done this.

The silencer is in the driver side fender adjacent to the battery. I removed mine and replaced it with a flexible tube routed behind the front turn signal lens in about an hour.

It's more efficient than the common hot air intake (aka cone filter in the engine bay). My plans are to get a 45 deg angle from the throttle body and 2.5 inch PVC tube and run it straight to the fender where it will make a 90 deg turn straight down and there is room to mount a filter. I'll put the AFM somewhere in between.

For those just planning to remove the silencer, remember to remove the two nuts or else you will be tugging on sheetmetal. It comes out from the bottom of the front fender, there is no need to loosen the top fender bolts (under the lip of the hood).

Sorry but I didn't think at the time to do a step by step for the silencer. I'll remember when I make my PVC intake system. Prelim sketches are found below

FYI the silencer box is about the size of an average cone filter.

the intake system on these cars is already way oversized, anything to make it get more air up that huge rubber tube is a waste, I have tried no airbox past the mass air with no change at all, it already has a cold air intake but the little plastic pipe is too small, pull the pipe out and seal the airbox to the fender with weatherstrip foam, if it gets colder than 45, seal up the hole in the fender and let it get the warm air under the hood by pulling the airbox away from the fender. I have experimented with many combinations with my car to get it to climb a 6400 foot mountain and nothing changes it much, not even an airbox off a v6, now messing with the other manifold and the head is forthcoming this summer

The o2 sensor is built into the AFM (not MAF) unit which you would have to run in line between the filter and intake.

Not gonna happen tho because my car has been detained

Bummer! Why?

maf= mass air flow (meter) Depends what side of town your from i guess.
So you don't find the flap type "AFM" restrictive? Or is the expense of a new ECU not outweighed by the gains.
