Do the dash lights dim when you turn the ignition to start the engine? If so, make sure the battery terminals are clean and in good repair. The positive battery cable has two wires; one for the starter motor, the other for the electrical system.

The transmission has a shift lock system that requires electrical power to work. this system can be bypassed. Look on the shifter console where the gear selector is for a small cover. Remove the cover and insert a flat screwdriver or similar to push the button down while moving the shifter. You will need to repeat this process every time you want to take the selector out of park. Your owners manual may have this info.
