Talking it's finally 5spd !!!

well after like 6 months of having the car sit there in the garage it's finally done..... didn't have too many pics.. sorry

here's the before picture

putting in the brake pedal

the almost done picture...

that was last week or so i think...

the completed pics

sorry for the camera phone pics but it's finally done... now for the next projects..

thanks to white90dx aka charlie for the tranny, clutch, flywheel, mounts.. and other misc parts attached to the tranny..

didn't run into too many problems other than 5spd camry donors are hard to find at the junk yard.. i was lucky to run into a few.. which was where i got the pedals...shift linkages..clutch hard line... and of course the ever so hard to find cover to cover the PRNDL piece in grey.. i also got the shiftboot from charlie also swapped in the 7th gen celica shifter..which is too short for the shift boot...for now i think i'm just going to keep it stock looking may be a new shift knob to fit over the shift knob but that's about it .... i drove it a few times since... it's definitely better than the auto for sure... i'm happy with it..

Thats awesome...you have alot of patience. Wish I had the motivation to do that.

Maybe when the AT dies but who knows how long that might be

That's freakin' awesome. I'm planning to do the same to my auto 3sfe this spring (if my fiancee will let me have it back).

Aside from the clutch master cylinder hole (in the firewall), did you have to cut any other apertures? Did the pedal assembly just bolt-in, or were modifications necessary? How about the shift linkages, did they fit nicely without problems where the auto linkage had been?

Now that you've got 'er done, I really want to start planning this. I **HATE** automatics, and I just cannot see myself driving this car as it is.

tranny came out of charlie's old camry...it's fine for me though i think first gear is too short.. i'll probbly swap the tranny again when i do the engine ....

the brake pedal fits in fine.... there's also a hint of where the clutch pedal goes on the inner side of the firewall the carpet is has the outline where it should go punched out but the firewall isn't which is kinda weird...the shifter base bolts right in using the old bolts locations... you do have to widen the hole where the linkages goes a little bit which is a PITA since the power steering lines are right there... which is also a PITA to pull at the junk yard also....just seal all the holes with some silicon go keep the rust and water out...

Judging by the tach on that first pic, I'm gonna say it's I4 standard. The red-line on my V6 is 6700...

Oh man I want to do this swap so bad. There are at least three 3S-FE 5-speed Camrys sitting in a bone yard near my place. If I can ever get this car to stop leaking oil from... well... everywhere it possibly can, then I'll start thinking about it.

Is there a complete list of necessary parts written anywhere?

you can follow this guide..
http://www.1jz.com/camry/guide-trans.htm
it's basily the same.. you don't need a new center console though... just get the shiftboot and it'll fit right over the whole where the auto was.
