Ice racing anyone?!

So has anyone here, or anyone you know of, ever ice-raced a 2nd gen Camry? I've got access to a free one (5-speed I4, 1988 LE) at work. My boss has agreed to sponsor me for next year, whatever vehicle I choose. BUT I'm a little concerned with the weight factor combined with the high center of balance. Most guys in the rubber class (studless) are running Civics, Corollas, Sprints/Swifts, etc... I worry this car would be a lead sinker, if you knowuttimean.

Any experience out there with this one? Perhaps some All-Trac anecdotes at least? And no, this one I'm looking at isn't AWD.

ive seen a youtube video of one drifting in the ice, it handled it pretty good.

im not sure how it would compare to a lighter car though

I think I know the one you mean...the guy was drifting his v6 around a long, sweeping country road in the snow, right? My worry is more about the tight corners. My V6 Camry is incredibly solid in the snow, but the I4 camrys--for some reason-- seem to break the rear end loose more easily.

Heh heh, I'll definitely get video. here's a clip of a Canadian comedian (Rick Mercer) ice racing in my town a couple of weeks ago. pretty tame stuff in this vid, they usually get up to over 100-120kmh on the straight stretches...

It's a LOT of fun...

I think the weight might actualy be a benefit. I think it would be pretty good.

Well, strictly speaking weight is a help on snow or ice. But only if you're making moderate turns. Once you get into hairpin scenarios, body roll begins to make me nervous...my snow tires are good, but not that good.
