Will a A140E Transmission from a 87 Camry fit a 1986 Celica GTS?

I'm looking at a 1986 Celica GTS with a 3SGE engine and a bad automatic transmission. I haven't looked at it yet, but I had the owner read the model plate in the engine compartment and the last 4 digits are A140E. I have an extra A140E from a 87 Camry. Does anyone know if my Camry tranny will fit the 86 Celica? I'll buy the car if it is a direct swap. I don't want to buy the car and find out it won't fit.

The engine has 150,000 miles. Are the 3SGE engines as bulletproof as the 3SFE engines? The car runs good and looks pretty clean. The guy only wants $250.00

So you think it will bolt up? The CV axles will bolt up as well?

That's just it, the gearing.

Many many years ago, there was guy when we still had camryman.org around that took the 5-speed transmission from a Celica GT and installed it into his gen2 Camry.

Everything fit and worked, but discovered that the gearing was much lower in the Celica. He was happy that the acceleration was even better, but of course, the mileage suffered :-(

Reverse the situation and the acceleration will suffer, but mileage will likely improve.
