Can anyone help? 91 Camry

I have a 91' Camry automatic and I have to start it out in low and then shift to second then to drive or it won't have enough power. I don't want to have to take it in to the shop without knowing what it could be. can anyone help? Thanks!

What are your vehicle specs?

When you start out in 'D' do you feel a slipping? Does it feel like the transmission is not grabbing? [Transmission problems]

Or does it feel like there's not enough acceleration power? If it feels like there isn't enough power, it could be due for a basic tune up. Oil change, air and fuel filters, spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap and rotor, O2 Sensor, etc.

What happens when you just try to accelerate from a stop in Drive?

Have you recently had an emissions inspection? If so, what were the results?
