Heat shield

The heat shield/hood insulation under the hood of my car is getting to be in pretty rough shape. It's torn on the passenger side where it is connected to the hood, and it kind of hangs down whenever I open the hood. It is also very dirty and gets my hands all oily every time I reattach it to the hood. I was wondering if it would be possible to take it off and clean it, or if it would be alright to completely remove it? Also, approximately how much would a new one cost?

I would just rip it off. I had the same problem on an 87 Camry I sold last month, and removing it made no noticeable difference on engine sound.

My 90 V6 LE, which is a top-o-the-line model, never had one...neither did my base-model 91 Camry. You won't miss it.

They tend to be more annoying than functional. You're not missing out.

Ok. Thank you everyone! I was sick of it hanging down while I was working on anything. I'll take it off when I get home.
