If you are going to replace the seal without removing the pump, you only need the drive shaft seal.

The pump can be removed for easier access. In this case there is an O-ring behind the pump that runs the outline of the pump body, this seems to be a dealer only part.

If you were going to remove the housing that the pump body mounts to, you would need the kit.

I do not believe so. You should be able to remove the pump itself without dropping the pan. I'll be tearing into my new-to-me JDM motor in the near future and will try to remember to take the pump off before dropping the pan to make sure it can be done.

the pump is a 2 piece deal, the main body is bolted to the block, has the pickup tube on it and ya gotta drop the pan to get it off, the pump cover has the gear driven by the timing belt and has 5 or 6 10mm bolts holding it to the main body and seals with a bat shaped ring to the main body, if you are just taking the cover off put a new seal on the axle and new bat ring from carquest and do it this way, put a few dobs of super black permatex in the groove and get the ring to lay down in it and leave it alone for about the time to put a dob on your finger and smear a thin layer on the cover, put a glop of grease in the center of the driven gear and put the 2 longest bolts into the same holes they came out of and very carefully work the drive gear on the cover into the driven gear that you should have left in the main body, be sure the gears are in a place that they can go into each other and the bolt holes will align, do a dry run on this to get a feel for it and start the 2 long bolts when the gears and holes align without moving the cover on the ring and then finger tighten the 2 and put the short ones into the holes they belong in, tighten all the bolts keeping in mind they are small and when done turn the timing belt driven pulley with your hand clock wise with oil in the pan and check for tight spots
