'91 Camry V6 LE 'CEL'- Trying to diagnose Check Engine Light!

My check engine light pops up every once in a while, so I figured it's time to get it gone..

I found the 'Diagnosis' box under the hood, but I'm not sure which ports I'm supposed to pin. Any help is much appreciated.

On my '89 four banger, the label under the cover of the test ports also has a diagram of which pins to jump.

Alright, thanks. Am I supposed to start the engine to make the diagnosis?

Does anyone have a link for translating the codes?

Don't start the car, just turn the key to "on" and jump the terminals. The CEL will flash morse-like code at you.

I can't remember if www.camrystuff.com has trouble codes, but if not then either buy the Haynes manual or post-up your results here and one of us can tell you what your code indicates.

When you say the CEL pops up once in awhile, is it by any chance when the car is cold? Does the light clear itself if you shut the car off and restart?

The CEL isn't there when I start the car. I guess it shows up more when I've been driving for a while, but it doesn't stay on.

I jumped the terminal today and flashed codes 12, 52, & 71.

Three for one deals... I'm hoping only for a limited time though.

12 ---> rpm signal ( no RPM signal to ECU for a few seconds)
52 ---> doesn't exist but 51 does so i'll take my chances it's 51
51---> no IDL signal or A/C signal to ECU
71 ---> EGR malfunction.

Code 52 is for detonation (knock sensor) could be located on the rear cylinder bank.
