I have a 1990 Camry and I just swapped out the transmission with one from a salvage yard.
When I first started it it would go in reverse with a struggle but no forward gears.
Check the ATF level and it was low (evidently this happened when things started circulating). I put in more fluid and all the forward gears work great.

However, No reverse at all. The fluid levels are quite high now. Could this be the problem? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The Forward clutch could be jammed.(Common condition on A140 units that were not in service for long time).

Have you checked the neutral start switch? Try putting the car in another gear and try starting it, if it starts its misaligned, and you'll need to realign it. That also controls the gears of your car.
