2nd Generation 90 2.0L running/idle problems

Hi everyone,
I've been searching this forum for some time and decided i should ask the experts!

My mother gave me her 90 camry to look at; it has 120k kms.
The problem is when the engine is cold, it has trouble idling and accelerating...feels like it's bogging. After it warms up it is drivable, but at times hesitates and sometimes surges at constant highway speeds.

So far i have replaced, wires/cap, rotor, plugs, air filter, fuel filter and cleaned out the throttle body. I couldn't remove the IAC as the lower lines didn't come off...which leaves it tight to remove the 4 lower screws. Also i removed one of the lines to find it full of coolant - i didn't think they cooled the TB area.

Any advice would be appreciated.

cheers

Mine would hardly run at all until it go warm, then it would run just fine.
So, I don't know if this will help but-

my O2 sensor was bad.

whats the bet way to remove the IAC.?..and can remove the TB with the

First pull the codes if any present. The idle speed is adjusted by ECU based on the inputs fron engine coolant sensor, the NE coil in the distributor and theelctrical load (lights on).
When the car is ROLLING, the idle speed control is not adjusting the engine speed it does it only when there is no input from speed sensor!
If no codes is present I would suggest to check for the vacuum leaks and /ignition problems (ignition coil)

ok thanks.
Now i do hear a faint vacuum...but it may be normal.
How do i check for codes? is there a way to short and look at a light - all i have is an obdII scanner.

Now by coil do you mean the unit under the rotor? Any way to check for this with common tools and meters?

Sorry for all the questions, but i have to get this running good again; it's actually dangerous to drive since it at times it doesn't accelerate properly.

well the problem is the worst when the motor is cold..a temp sensor?
But the actual problem feels like a fuel/ignition issue. I'm almost out of patience and time...

I have a '93 2.4 and I had to remove the throttle body to remove my IAC. The throttle body is mounted with 3 bolts and 1 nut. Since the IAC has coolant that passes through it, you will need to drain some coolant from your radiator. Check to see what your manual calls for. For me, the fun part was removing the 4 phillips head screws without stripping them from the IAC...I stripped two of them. I wonder why they didn't use bolts or a different type of fastener other than phillips head screws. Good luck.
