Gen1 1985 Camry Exhaust Flex pipe

Have been unable to find one in a junkyard, and the one's on E-bay are minus the heat shield (mine's toast) Anyone have a spare available for sale ?? If not, has anyone run one without the heat shield and have any problems, I know the heat shield is a mounting point to the engine, but are the exhaust supports enough ? I did find one USED one out there from a junkyard out of state , but they wanted $75 plus shipping ! Don't think so !! Any help would be appreciated. Thanks ! :0)

I'm not sure about the heat shield being a mounting point to the engine. But my 84 Camry had a bad flex pipe and I had an exhaust shop weld a similar sized flex pipe in its place. No problems without a heat shield.

Thanks ! There is a bracket that mounts the heat shield to the block on my 85 and my 86 , I thought most Gen 1's would be the same. the flex pipe has 3 bolts mounting it to the exhaust manifold and 2 bolts (rusted bad! that's going to be a PITA) mounting to the catalytic converter. Did they just cut the portion that was bad out, and weld some new pieces in ?? If you don't mind me asking, How much did they charge you?

There was a huge hole in the flex pipe on my car. My heat shield must have fallen off a long time before I got the car, i never knew there was supposed to be one. But yeah, the guy at the shop just cut out the flex part and welded a new one into its place. It was a few years ago that I had it fixed, but I'm pretty sure it was less than $40.
