2nd Generation Transmission Conversion For 1990 Camry

I am about to buy a 1990 Camry with an auto transmission. How much would it cost to get it swapped over to a 5-speed? I know that the best way is to just get a donor car for it, so that should be cheap enough. How much would the mechanics fees be on average?

would be just cheaper to get a 5spd car... and swap everything over there if it's in better shape...

Problem is, im not going to find a better condition 5speed. The auto is in pretty much perfect shape (for being almost 20 years old) and has already started to be worked on. Paint, body kit, lights, spoiler etc.

i guess you're looking at about 1500$ minimum... say 700-900$ for labor and rest for parts

1500 bucks is a whole lot cheaper than i would have guessed, which is always a plus. And a 5speed from a 96? Any idea how much it would be to get one?

Best to find a donor car and be able to pull every part you need. Might do a TN history search, there have been a few posts listing all the parts required.

There is some cutting involved, so it is not just a straightfoward shop. It is no more difficult than any other auto -> manual swap that I have seen though...

I will be doing it with parts from my 2WD 5-speed to swap over into my AWD auto when I do the motor swap...

Hey thanks for all the help guys. I know i can't do the work myself so at least i know what im looking to spend.

Some one already suggested a 5speed from a 1996, anyother suggestions?
And will the '96 even fit in the '90?
