So, while I'm having problems with my 86 Camry LE (303K KM), I stumbled across an 89 Camry LE (220K KM) for sale for a very reasonable price. Presuming it doesn't have any serious problems, I'm curious if it'd be worth it for me to "upgrade". Will the 89 give me better performance, speed, or (especially) gas milage? Was there any notable problems with the 89?

I'd appreciate any and all feedback.

Its definitely an upgrade. The interior parts / trims are 100% better. I'm not sure about gas mileage but starting cold and the engine i find is better. the problem with these cars gen 2 are that the starter / flywheel may squeal. but then u just start it again and theres no issues.

Fuel mileage is definitely comparable, as long as you keep the 3sfe tuned up properly. Drive like a normal human (as opposed to the monstrous lead foot I get on sunny days in my V6) and you should be between 25 and 30mpg. Unless you're in Toronto or LA, where traffic will cause that to plummet to 10mpg

Considering the abuse both my 2vzfe and 3sfe Camrys have taken (392,000km and 235,000km respectively), and considering the laughably low maintenance requirements, you'd be crazy to pass up an 89LE if the price is right. C'mon, you know you wanna!
