Will 3rd Gen shifter work on 2nd Gen

Having problems with my 2nd Gen manual shifter popping out of 5th. I have a chance to buy a 3rd Gen 5 speed. Will it swap out and work without having to redrill any new holes or make other modifications?

If your transmission is popping out of gear, it is not the shifter, but something inside the transmission... so it won't help your problem. The shift lever from almost any FWD Toyota will work just fine (Celica shifters act like a short shifter, etc.) but won't change what is going on inside the transmission.
