Mixed driving with mostly highway I get 34mpg. Sometimes with the AC on as well. I'm expecting more now though with the new fuel pump. Car had some power issues before the pump change. I had a slowly dying pump.
Worst I ever got with the car was 28mpg... but that was with the roof rack bars on with freeway driving. I don't have a fairing for the front bar though so the wind drag is pretty bad.

What should wagons be getting, I have an 87, Auto, LE and so far I have had the car for about a month or more and first tank full was 24 and this past tank was 26mpg. Would like to get better but thinking the wagon may be a bit worse than the normal 4 or 2 door.
Any other wagons out there with input??
Thanks
Bernie
whoa! so my 30 doesn't seem so good afterall. I am actually more used to 24. Maybe its because I'm on higher elevation? Hows the work in replacing the fuel filter, do I need to drain anything?
On my old '90DX 4-cylinder 5-speed I would average 28-32mpg in city driving. On freeway trips, I would average 36-38mpg. I actually got almost 500 miles on a tank one time...
On my 'newer' Camry when it had the stock motor turbocharged, I would still get high 20's in mixed driving (and I got over 30 on a few tanks). Now with the 3s-gte I get in the 20-25mpg range in mixed aggressive driving (with a leaking gas tank!).
My Alltrac auto gets 22-26mpg, but on my latest trip to Sacramento and back I had a tank at 28mpg.
Pretty much, I've been able to match and beat the old-style EPA mileage ratings in every car I've owned (even my WRX). Be easy on the throttle position changes (no sudden movements of the foot), be reasonable on the freeway (I go 72mph, generally which is slow in LA) and keep the car tuned up...

88 Camry LE. Driving from Kingman, Az to Los Angeles late at night at 98mph I'd get 22mpg for 3hrs 45mins and can go roughly 275 miles before running out of gas. If I slow down I can just make it on a tank of gas. A fill-up is about 15.5 gal. If I slow to 80mph I get about 30mph. If I slow to 60-65mph (late at night 2.5 hour drive) I can get 38-40mpg. FYI if you lose 200lbs of weight it makes a difference of about 1mpg if I recall correctly. I pump up my tires to their max psi of about 45. I use Mobile 1 synthetic. I turn off A/C and all electricals when climbing steep grades.
I had my 87 camry sedan for less then a month now. What are some things I can do to improve fuel mileage besides tune up (plugs wires cap rotor) ?
Im assuming with the highmileage theres all sorts of deposits of dirt and carbon lying around everywhere. what can i do to clean all this crap up ?

hm. interesting. if I run city mix of 60km/h and 80km/h no AC and just stock radio I'm still averaging 22-26mpg. apparently my fuel filter has been replaced about 14 years ago and my tires are at stock 30psi. quaker oil green bottle for me
I'm actually having to employ all sorts of hypermilling techniques to get the 30mpg. i rarely go above 2500rpm's too
Where do you get your info on hypermiling? I already just naturally do most of those techniques while driving anyway (especially the 'smoothing' of traffic).

I've been running "yard gas" (the stuff we drain out of vehicles as they come in to the wrecker's where I work) exclusively for about seven months now. When I started running it, the 3SFE was getting about 30-32mpg in town. Now, it's down to about 25mpg. The filter on our storage tank must be getting clogged, and now so is my Camry's fuel filter, I imagine...
P.S.: Oh, by the way, the yard gas is free--otherwise I'd reconsider running it. I've saved about $2000 since November, so a fuel filter every few months concerns me not at all...
