1st & 2nd Generation (1983–1986 & 1987-1991)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1983-1986 & 1987-1991.
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
hey all, i'm back. been away for a while. sickness and all that. anyhow, last time i was on i was bignoting myself, sayin i was gonna drop a 3sgte into my sv21 wagon. and all the obvious bells and whistles to go with such a pricey upgrade. more than 4 months on from all the claims i'm nowhere near this realisation of a dream. all i have done is a pod filter upgrade, a partially modded gril, a very nice looking instrument cluster and new pinstriping. so now in my weakened (financially) state i have to go very slow. my focus at this stage is to work at replacing all the cracked broken and worn parts. whether this be with direct swaps or mods i don't really mind, but i see it like this, no point replacing with a direct swap if i'm going to mod it later. so, if anyone can answer any of the following questions it would be grateful.
a: if i replace my worn seats in the front what would i be best looking for? what will fit straight in? obviously another camry sv21 but what other models have the same mounting points?
b: how easy is it to just replace the lense on a camry headlight? i have a rather annoying stone chip in a otherwise good assembly.
c: anything i should watch out for when replacing a door? namely the passenger side back door.
d: can you get strut braces for the sv21?
e: i've got a pic on my comp of one of the member cars (canna remember who) that has a rather nice "open intake stone shield" piece that runs across the bottom at the front. anyone know if this is a one off or was it made for a particular model?
f: yeah i know it's getting long winded, do you recommend replacing or rebuilding my trans? it's manual. should i just go to another box?
g: lastly (for now) would it be recommended to cut a hole in my bonnet or in my wheel arch to get more air to the pod filter. if i go the way of the bonnet i'll be building a nice aluminium box to make a sexy air tight section. but i heard the way of the wheel arch might be easier. i'm a bit dubious of this though.

a) none
b) not hard .. corner lights off. 3 screws at the bottom of the light... some other screws i forget
c dunno
d) out of a es250 dunno what it's called in australia
e) dunno
f) it's probbly cheaper to buy a used tranny out of a gen3 camry
g) no matter what you do to the intake it's already too big for the engine.

righto then. so as follows,
a: gunna have to steal my mates seats when he's drunk
b: gunna have to steal my mates headlights when he's drunk
c: gunna have to steal his door when he's drunk
d: gunna have to either fly to nippon (what japanese land was called during WW1 & 2) or the "land of the free" to get a strut brace (might just get one custom)
e: i tried looking through the member pics and can't find the pic, will look through an old thread i think i musta pulled it from.
f: gen 3 camry's here in tas are mostly slogged out to all hell. what's the chances of a newer (prettier) gen 4 or 5 tranny fitting? i'd love to chance a gen six but for the amount i'd be spending i could buy a complete gen 3, maybe 4.
g: so basicly my best bet is for more ponies is to get extractors and other bits? meh, i reckon i'll still do the bonnet mod. it'll look pretty at the least.
ATOBE, thankyou very much for the quick and prompt response. anyone at all, please leave notes to help. to clarrify, i'm not touching the block, it's got 5000 k's on it. no point playing with a pretty much near new engine assembly. extractors i'll do. other than that, nup. oh, and anyone had any experience with the 5x100 to 5x114.3 hub converters? they safe?

in reference to E: i found it. HomeGrown has it posted as the first car in the gen 2 picture thread. is the lip intake stone protector thingy on any models over there? or is it custom. anyone know?

BOO HOO! found out the V6 here in aus only had a couple of differences. the badging, the colour coded bumpers, and the actual V6. bummer.
PLEASE READ THIS AND COMMENT ANYONE! i have questions that need answers.
