Refrigerant type

Hey Everyone
I would like to know if anyone know what type refrigerant a 1991 Toyota Camry has? Is there any way to tell if its the new R134A or the old freon? I went to Autozone and they could not tell me. The car was mad in June of 2001

It had r12, the old expensive stuff to begin with, the fittings are by the passenger front shock tower, look at them and see if they are about the same size as the tire stems and have threads or are lots bigger and no threads and if its the old ones you are going to have to change the dryer out by the condenser in front, get all the oil out of the system you can and fill it with ester and 134a with the new bigger fittinmgs after you pull it down, is it working now?
