Well, it gets 36MPG just running around and to work, pretty good but its loud as hell without a resonator and pretty quick above 20MPH and hits the gears like a raped ape but I am baffled as to why it crawls off a stop, I have checked the belt timing and advanced the distributor until it just barely pings, I can stall the converter up to about 1600 RPM but no more and it wont spin the tires on gravel until it gets above 2500 then it just blows the gravel everywhere, it acts like the converter has a real low stall speed and is very tight almost like the final drive gearing is real tall but its not, has my converter gone bad?
Just a thought, I had a bad injector that resulted in a similar low power at take off. I seem to recall that it had pitifully low power up to more like 40 mph so it may not be the same.
By the way, what is a converter and how do you stall one out?

Its fixed, it was kinda my fault, I was bring up the timing until it just barely pinged but the egr valve was bad, so it pinged at a real late base timing and thats why it was boggy, fixed the valve and brought up the timing and now it scats
Wheres the egr valve ? is it the one thats held in with the clip on the EFI or is it the one thats bolted on to the right of it ?

thanks fred and glad to hear your camry is running good. I have one more question.
Did you replace your egr valve with a junkyard unit and just clean it out with carb cleaner ?
Those things are damn expensive I just cant see buying a new one.

I had one, I was wondering if the final drive ratio is alot different between the 5 speed and the auto, I think the auto is alot higher thats why it seems slow off a stop to me
How do you take the egr valve off ? I can get the 2 bolts off easy enough but it wont come out.
Looks like theres a fitting holding it on at the base how do you get this sucker off ??

Sorry that this is late. If you haven't gotten to it yet, I got mine off with an offset crows foot wrench. However, it is easier to get to it if you remove the throttle body (and hey, why not clean the IAC valve while it is exposed!). Once you get the EGR valve off, check to make sure that the vertical tube that it is secured to is reasonably clear and that the lowwer vacuum hose from the EGR valve to the EGR modulator is unobstructed (I used a philips screw driver like a drill bit on mine).
