Master Window Switch Problem

I have an 88 LE wagon w/ the 2.0L

The master window switch was sort-of working (slow). Then it stopped working (will not control any window) only the door lock works.

I took the door panel off, lubed up the tracks - applied 12v to the motor and the window goes up and down fine.

I just went to the salvage yard and picked up another switch. This one is doing the same thing. Do you think it is another bad switch? They said it comes with a 30 day warranty. Should I switch it out for another - or do you think something else is going on??????

Check the wires running between the drivers door and chassis for breaks.

What Toymoho said, Since so many functions are out it is likely one of the ground wires (I believe that there are two). If you are comfortable with a multimeter you can do a lot of testing at the master switch wire loom. Do a search for "master switch" an you will find a lot of posts on this.

Pull the switch out WITH connector ATTACHED;
turn ignition on
clip the test light to the good ground (NOT the DOOR)
probe the light blue thick wire in the center of connetor (power wire] if light is on you are getting power to the switch;
now using the jumper attach the connector terminal of the WHITE WIRE WITH BKLACK TRACER TO THE GOOD GROUND.
TRY THE SWITCH
If the window works now , repair the ground wire.

I was going down the road and decided to give the window a try - and guess what - now it is working. I agree, I think it might be a ground problem. I will go through the ground problem.

With engine running these extra 2 volts [14 v alternator vs 12 v battery] may be able to push necessary current through corroded terminals.
