2nd Generation 89 Camry brake pads ?

I would like some recommendations on front & rear brake pads for my 1989 Camry.

I have searched the forum, however the recommendations that I found were from 3 years ago. One of the suggestions was Akebono proact ceramic pads from tirerack.com. But their web site’s rating for stopping power was not that good. Others have suggested OEM Toyota pads.

I don’t need high performance stopping, but would like very good stopping performance for every day driving. And it would be nice if any necessary hardware, such as any clips, came with the pads.

Any current suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I just went on Rockauto and bought the cheapest ceramic pads and second-cheapest disks that I could find. I'm like the new pads, no dust at all--in fact, the rears are dirtier than the fronts! Make sure you bed in the pads good.

Are the factory pads semi-metallic?

2nd Generation

I use Performance Friction Carbon Metallics avaliable at Autozone. They do let off pleanty of break dust, but it is the only way to stop this car fast. I have had the rotors glowing red and they still stop.
