Parking brake adjustment question

I've adjusted drum brakes before, but I think the last time I worked on my rear brakes on my '88 I just put in new shoes and I think they were a little two tight, and then drums were thin I ended up warping the drums.

So this time I put on new drums and shoes. I adjusted them like the haynes repair manual said. With the star wheels turned in all the way I made numerous forward and reverse stops. But the brakes didn't seem to auto adjust. Then I noticed when I pulled the parking brake handle I heard a click. Every time I pulled the parking brake the ratchet arms where turning the star wheels a little bit. So I keep doing this about 30 times until I didn't hear clicking. The parking break set will less clicks and the brake pedal was firmer. But not like it used to be.

I haven't had the wheels off to check the drag. But what I'm wondering is how do I know what is enough drag? I searched this topic and came across this. Someone said that the drum should turn three times after being spun.

So What is the proper way? I don't what to warp my new drums.

Thanks.

pull em off and adjust them to make you push a little to put them on and you should be able to turn the drum with some drag, just enough to keep it from spinning after you let go, then put the wheel on

Yea on 90 celica drums, theres an adjustment behind the drum that you use a special tool for, and it should be set so that the drum is snug, but not tight.
