USA 86 Camry temp gauge problem

Hey Guys, I have an 86 Camry with temp gauge jumping all around. The car is an I4, 2.0, automatic. Where does the temp signal for the gauge come from? Is there a separate temp sender for the gauge? I replaced the Engine Coolant Sensor to fix a problem with the car stalling when once warmed up and it all worked fine. Now the temp gauge is acting wacky.

Might be under the coolant bypass housing. Look under the radiator hose where it connects to the housing.

With the hood open and looking at the engine, just below the distributor on my 85, I think your engine water system is the same?? You should see 2 senders on the left side of the metal water oulet that goes to the radiator. One should have a spade terminal and the other should have about a 3 inch wire in the center connected to a plug. Clean both of these connectors, but I think your problem in the one with the spade terminal, or the rear one.
