I have an 86 camry dlx
I decided to replace the water pump myself, largest mechanical job i have done, but i am not totally inexperienced. But i did completely fail at one thing. It was not the correct placement of the timing belt, i got it on keeping things lined up, but i forgot to tighten the tension pulley down. See attached pics.
Now that i have a new timing belt and have the car mostly taken apart, im missing one tool i had the first time. An air impact gun, I used it to take off and replace the bolt on the crank pulley. I had my GF get in the car and put it in first and stand on the break as i yanked and pulled on the bolt with a socket wrench to no avail, is there an easier way to get more grip then taking off the starter and locking the flywheel with a screwdriver? (suggested by a friend)

Reason: poor choice of title
got pulley off, and found new timing belt is the wrong type...
After close inspection the old timing belt will do, wear is superficial, valve timing is good but ignition is off, unfortunately the main engineer must have been out the day the design for the distributor cap was drawn up...
The cap is permanently connected to the wires, I would have just swaped them around till I got the sequence correct. So i went to take the cap off to alter the sequence with the needle, but the third screw for the cap is almost covered by the heater core hose... making it nearly impossible to get, unless i remove the hose...
Lost daylight for today, will resume working tomorrow morning
First of all, your engine looks to me like 87 3S-FE so the car is 87 model; [it probably was made in Nov 86 but this is NOT model year); so the guys in Kragen sold you the belt for single cam 2SFE pre-87 engine. For future reference reafd my thread about the timing belt.
