Question Battery / Power related question.

Ok, so I have built a HHO generator and want to install it in my '89 camry. It will connect to the battery, but I need some way to make it so it will always turn off when the engine is off. Some people attached one lead to the battery and another to their window wiper electrical connection, so it would only go on when the engine is on.

I could do something like this, but the HHO gen will be pulling ~15 amps, and I don't want to blow a fuse or anything by attaching it to the window wipers. Some people used a relay but I don't even know what the heck an automotive relay is... Could someone tell me?

So basically I just need a way to attach the HHo gen to the battery so it will only run when the engine is on. This eliminates the risk of an explosion.

Thanks!!

2nd Generation

Wire it to a toggle switch in the dash. Less work and you can turn it on and off when ever you want. How did you build your generator?

The reason I don't want to do a toggle switch is because if I ever forgot to turn it off, it would drain my battery or it could have an extremely large build up of hydrogen gas in the engine and end up blowing something up. So for long term use I NEED the hydrogen generator to turn off when the engine is off, and turn on when it is on.

I know the fuses in the fuse box, only receive power when the engine is running. So I was thinking I could maybe pull out the 15 amp fuse for the horn, and put in a 30 amp fuse, and run my hydrogen generator and horn off one fuse. But I'm a little weary as I don't know what gage of wire is running to those fuses, and putting in a larger fuse would that cause the wires to melt or anything?

Can anyone else think of a place where I could tap power on my '89 camry that is only active when the engine is off and has sufficient wiring for 15-30 amps extra current draw?

Also, what kind of headroom is on this car's 80 amp alternator? Like If I had the AC going, headlights on how much power would that be taking up?

Thanks a lot!

you have to use a relay read up here http://www.the12volt.com/relays/relays.asp if you're going to be pulling 15A tapping into any other circuit in your car will likely to blow that fuse. use your radio's ACC signal to turn on/off the relay... the only problem i see with this is it'll be working if you put your car to ACC w/o starting it like when you're waiting for someone and listening to the radio. so it's also best to use a toggle switch also

Where is the ACC signal located and how do I tap into it? I already have a relay, I'm just having trouble knowing where to install it.
