problem starting and keeps stalling in wet weather
I have a gen 2 1991 camry. I am having problems every time the weather gets damp with starting and stalling. I have done some research and found that these gen 2 camrys have had trouble with the ignition coil in the distributor. My question is how much can i expect to pay if I bought and aftermarket ignition coil and had it installed...
If he is nice guy they will charge for 1.25 hour labor, but I've heard about 2 hour labor quotes.
If you have basic tool set plus 8 and 7 mm nut drivers you should be able to do it yourself.
You also need to check for the trouble codes [even if the Check engine light is off, there can be some ignition related].
I got my coil from local self-service yard and it took me about 35 minutes to change it.
The coil must be inspectd for burn mark below the distributor shaft reluctor [looks like gray wash-out discoloration.]
Also the distributor body o-ring needs to be changed prior to distributor installation
Dr. J you mentioned that I should replace the distibutor body o-ring... I found the o-ring online, but they have the "distributor shaft" o-ring and the "cap to body" o-ring. I'm assuming I'd need the cap to body, but wanted o get your input... Thanks Again...
