7g celica shifter -> 2g camry?

I have heard that a shifter for 7g celicas will fit in the 2g camry.Can anyone confirm this? I found this and If it will fit I am definitely going to buy it.

oh short shifter might not work unless you make your shifter base a little bit higher up

Is raising the shifter base as simple as putting some spacers underneath it? How high are we talking about?

Is the 7th gen shifter vastly recommended becuase it has the shortest throw out of all the (celica) generations? Or simply becuase the of availability?
