Wheel Thumping but nothings wrong?

Over the past 2-3 weeks a loud noise has been coming from the rear-end along with strong wheel shaking back and forth.

I rotated the rear tires to the front, and one of the tires I moved is making a consistent thumping noise all the time the faster I go.

It get loud sometimes, and soft the other, almost intermittent, although I can always feel it in the floorboards.

I took it to Firestone, they said nothing is wrong with the tire, its perfectly balanced and only 4-5 months old.

Im sure its the tire because the front was not making any noise before I moved the rears up, next step is to buy another tire and have it put on my spare (full size with a tore up tire on it atm).

Any other suggestions on what it could be? I need a spare anyways so I am going to get the spare fixed up anyways, a warped rim perhaps? Firestone said there were no knots or anything wrong with that tire.

I stumped

If it moves when you rotate tires... how could it be anything else? Perhaps you have a belt separating in that tire and they just didn't look close enough? Try installing the spare on the corner that you think is making the noise and if it goes away... take that tire to the tire guy and have him take another look.

Uh... yeah... I sorta saw that too... but obviously he needs to beg, borrow, or steal one anyway if his is trashed... He also said the next step was to get one.

MAN... you guys are picky.

The thumping moved from the back to the front when he rotated the tires; that is if I am understanding what he is saying. If that is the case, it's that tire or the wheel the tire is mounted on that is causing the problem. I would take the car to another tire dealer and ask them to look at that tire/wheel combination. If they see a problem like a broken or shifted belt, then take that information back to the original tire dealer along with the extra bill (if any) from the second tire dealer. You can also try to see if there is another franchise of the original tire dealer somewhere close enough to you to take the car to them. You paid for a new tire. If that tire is the problem, get it replaced under warranty.
