No Power to the A/C System/.

Here's the story...Last summer I installed a Brand New AC Compressor, New Drier, Vacuumed the entire system also Converted to R134A and the Condenser itself was still good. It was Ice Cold for a month or so. I had to recharge it again because it turns out I had a leak.

No biggie. Winter was here and I figure I'd replace the hoses or seals later. During that time I used the heater. and noticed that the blower would act up from time to time.

Anyways..the time has come to fix the leak. I got lazy and took the car to GoodYear to do an A/C inspection for $22. The Mo'fo's there quoted me $250 to replace the seals... Ok. I schedule the next day to have the repairs done.

The next day after an hour later of waiting they call me in saying that they won't be able to fix it. They say that the "High side is showing too much low pressure and that the Low side is showing too much high pressure.?" And that I have to replace my Compressor, Drier, etc Basically the whole system. Something about restriction. wtf! He says do you hear a ticking sound? Im like...No. "That means you gotta replace the Compressor". He claims he added one pound of freon. But I didn't even hear the compressor engage.! It just doesn't make any sense to me. Are there any A/C Specialist that can help me out?

The thing that bothers me the most is that why would you recharge the system when they haven't even replaced the seals or fix the leak? And aren't they suppose to figure out the problem when they do the A/C inspections? They were gonna charge me the full amount but I told them I've replaced those parts a couple of months ago and that they didn't even fix anything. They were like Ok ok we'll just charge you $60 bucks for the 1 pound of freon. The reciept says R-12 but they claim they put in R-134A.

Its a 1989 4cyl Camry. Now There's no power going through my A/C System after going to that shop, The system/blower is completely dead. I took the blower out and hot wired it to the batt. and it still runs.

The fuses seem to be ok unless I missed any other hidden places? I checked under the hood, driver side and the passenger kick panel. But I did notice that the relay for the A/C management says "Dimmer Relay"? Is that right or was it switched.? Any other places to check? Any help is appreciated. Thanks Heres a pic of the relay I found under the hood on A/C Management:

Not sure about a 1989 model. My 1995 4cyl has a 10 amp fuse on the driverside behind the coin tray. But when it goes out a lot of other things die as well (windows, dash gauges, etc). What about the switch on the dash going bad?

If you did the retrofit perfectly (got all the old out (including the oil) and put only 134A in (no sealants) with PAG 46 (might be different for yours) and new drier and o-rings all around, then your problem was in leaving the leak so long. Water gets into the system (humidity) and combines with the oil to result in some acidic goo. If you have a leak, air gets in. If air gets in, water gets in along with it. If water is in your system long you're screwed.

If you skipped some steps in the retro fit there are a slew of other problems that may have developed in addition to the water reacting with the oil.

I can't see where anything the shop guys did would affect your cabin blower.

16oz of 134a sounds like too much but again, I'm not sure on a 1989. Even so, that would be like $15 at Wal-mart. I am pretty sure that 16oz of freon (R12) would be a lot more than that.

Luck,
Kep

I have a "dimmer relay" as my a/c relay too, so no problem there.

Thanks for the help guys. I've been driving around with the dash taken apart. I still haven't checked the A/C Resistor. I just installed a player and I didn't find any fuses behind the coin tray.

If its not the resistor then I think I might have a bad relay. Not sure how to test it out. Maybe with a Multimeter? Im gonna do some research on how to use that thing.
I also hotwired the compressor and the clutch does engage. Its 100+ degrees here in Vegas and it really Sucks.
