So I just installed a new JVC CD / HD radio. The install went ok, but I couldn't get the faceplate to go on all the way after the install. I think the CD player sticks out a little, so the faceplate doesn't fit on near the bottom, there is about a 1/2" gap... Anyone run into that?
Now I was also thinking about upgrading the front 4.5" speakers and rear 6.5" speakers... But I was on the crutchfield site and it said most speakers you need to mod them to fit the gen 2 camry... Anyone do a speaker install? What was required?
After I get some speakers, I'd like to hook up a subwoofer in the trunk. All I need is something small. Maybe a single 10" and a smaller amp. Don't want to spend too much on all of this...
Thanks guys!

OK i`m gonna tell you the easiest way to get a great sound i just did so i know and you are on the right track but you`ll need a few more parts first of all different size speakers are designed to deliver a different sound and very few speakers are gonna be worth the extra hundred bucks to upgrade just a little better speaker so starting at crutchfied and buy two sets of bass blocker i bought mine for 9.95 a set and there are differnt types depending on the sive of speakers so check the speaker size now starting with the 4 inch speakers in the dash (and yes it is a 4 not 4.5 ) the run of the mill pioneer 4 is the only one that will fit because of the tweeter height but with the bass blocker will give you a great sound just off the deck power so no amp will be required now on to the rear this one is a true 5 inch which companies no longer make so you`ll need to go with a 5 1/4 i also recommend the pioneer use a bass blocker on it and it will give you a full rich sound now on to the sub i use a single 10 inch sub kicker cr in a PORTED box this is a great sub 150 RMS 300 watts max this sub will not draw alot of power and sound great 89.00 dollars at circuit city now onto the amp is you use a low powered sub like the kicker a 200 watt amp will be perfect and also fit under the drivers seat with no problem what so ever i did this because i use my 89 camry to move alot of stuff so when i need the space i use the quick disconnect on the sub box and have all the room i need and the amp still safe a secure hope this helps you
Also a guy on craigslist has two Sony Xplode 10" speakers in box for $50 in mint condition. This seems like a steal, but I'd need a cheap amp. I'd like to screw the amp into the speaker box so I could take it out easily.
ALso you use the bass blocker so the regular speakers focus on higher sounds, instead of distorting trying to play bass? Then you add the sub in the back to compensate for the lack of bass from the other speakers?

yes sir you got it that how it works but i still would put the amp under the seat so if you have to take out the box you don`t have an open circuit power wire because it will spark and could catch fire if it touches metal and i`m sorry the back speakers on a sedan are 6 1/2 but still use a blocker on it
if you want to save a little more walmart sells the pioneers for 39.99 for the 4`s and 59.99 for the 6 1/2 and they are even a lower profile the the ts series
I'm about to upgrade my audio system as well, seeing as the cd player that came in my piece of shit doesn't even work, and cassettes are lame.
I'm going to be installing a sony xplod head unit, but it doesn't have the wiring harness... I'm gonna search for one locally, and if I have no luck, I'm gonna get the JVC cd player with AUX input. Now I have a question for the OP... what harness did you use?
Also, I'll be installing 6.5"s in the rear and a sub in the trunk (with amp under a front seat of course (probably passenger as its not power). I'm not going to even bother with the dash/front speakers just because it's not worth my time, and they work already.
250for750 wallmart sells the wiring harness for Toyota's, it should work. I purchased my CD player from Crutchfield and got a great deal. It was $100 - 20 coupon - 50 rebate + 7 shipping. So $37 ish, and that included the free wiring harness for purchases over $100 and instructions...
It's a HD Radio / CD player. It doesn't have an AUX in, but for $7 I got a cable that allows me to do aux in. Can't beat the price!
Wouldn't it be easier to install the sub directly to the sub box? That's what my cousin did, and he said it was easy to take out. I'd rather not do it under one of the seats...
